I had planned this missive as a tirade against the megalomanic right wing of the world. I had thought to casually mention in, perhaps, an aside that to adhere to conservatism is to proclaim oneself a misguided fool with no foundations in reality. These were the themes behind some of the things I had planned to say.
I realised though that to do so would put me in the same smug boat as all the other outrageous Eastwoods regurgitating rhetoric for laughs and cheap points.
Instead what do you think of the following:
I am a liberal I have been for many years. I believe in a welfare state, income tax, two elected houses of office, proportional representation and the unity of state.
I believe that society is made up of businessmen, managers, employees, people. . .and together we contribute to the same cause. We are all important, integral to one another. . .we could not survive alone.
I believe that we should all contribute equally without loopholes, leans or special considerations. . .just because your 30% amounts to more dollars than my 30% I am still, none-the-less, paying 30%. . .just like you.
I believe in a secular society with a separation of church, any church, and state; and I promote free education for all under this banner.
I do not believe in the party dog fights of assorted democracies around the world. . .it is divisive, pointless and a toxic pollutant eroding society.
All very nice isn’t it but it is all very plausible, possible and potent. (Unlike the dysfunctional right wing ideologues.) Did I say that out aloud.
