For centuries the Canadian Mountie has enjoyed a squeaky clean image of the indomitable law enforcement officer through thick and thin upholding right and the law; a modern Day Sir Galahad that everyone could rely on.
Over the last couple of years though we have learned that that was all whitewash. In actual fact the Mounties are anything but such heroes.
When grouped in fives they will taser to death a belligerent new immigrant armed with a stapler.
When working with female officers they sexually haze and harass, them forcing many women to quit and sue for damages.
The beloved Dudley Do right has turned into a drug smuggler and First Nations hater. Some incidents are to be expected but not on the scale of the last couple of years?
Now it would seem the RCMP did little if anything in pursuing justice in the alleged Rehtaeh Parsons rape case. They did even less when pictures posted of the rape in progress ended with the young, (17 year old) woman committing suicide.
Now after media and social media attention from one end of the globe to the next as well as a Ministerial investigation the RCMP have “suddenly” come across “surprising new evidence.” The case will be reopened. They could not do this before the child hung herself?
Rape is a foul despicable thing to do to anyone, it is even fouler when the culprits are set free as innocent. Then to be rejected by ones society via inept police and bullying peers diminishing your suffering to a cheap internet joke. I cannot imagine how that poor girl felt. What pains her parents and family must now be enduring?
Now the police, the people we trust to protect us, have remarkable new evidence?
I want to be angry here and shout at our inept corrupt police. I want to use bad language to express that anger but out of respect for Rehtaeh and her family I will keep a civil tongue in my head.
I would like to see the RCMP exact from the pay of every officer $1.00 every pay day for the next five years to fund a scholarship in Rahtaeh’s name or a call center that will help bullied children.
I want to see positive action not bland whitewashing.
